September STEMworks Solutions Challenge winner! In partnership with Legacy for Life

Today we announced the winner of our STEMworks Solutions Challenge Winner in Partnership with Legacy of Life. Leesa of Mililani High School took home First Place! Her Solution, the Organ Recovery Time Calculator, is a website that automates the calculation of time between each step of the organ recovery process from the time the surgery starts to the time the organ departs on a flight to a potential receiver.

Using several different APIs the Organ Recovery Time Calculator will allow the Legacy of Life team to select a flight, identify the airport and hospital, and calculate the time each step needs to be started for a successful organ recovery and donation.

Leesa will receive a paid 6-week internship with the Legacy of Life team to develop and test her solution, as well as an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset loaded with a 3D Organ VR Experience. Congratulations Leesa and Mahalo to STEMworks Facilitator Mr. Kikugawa

STEMworks Solutions Challenge PD - Mahalo Summer Rankin!

The STEMworks team wanted to offer our big Mahalo to Summer Rankin who spoke with our STEMworks Solution Challenge for September’s Professional Development that was held yesterday, September 22.

Summer is a Senior Lead Data Scientist in the Strategic Innovation Group (SIG) at Booz Allen Hamilton in their Honolulu Office. Her projects often involve deep learning, signal processing, NLP, anomaly detection, and performance measurement.

It was a treat to hear from Summer about her journey to Data Science and her helpful insight to our students for creating solutions for the Legacy for Life Challenge.
