Culture Meets Innovation: STEMworks AFTERschool™ Program Launches at Kaunakakai Elementary

The STEMworks AFTERschool™ program has expanded its reach to Molokai with the exciting launch at Kaunakakai Elementary School this October. Under the guidance of STEMworks™ Educator, Kumu Gonzales, students are experiencing a unique blend of cultural learning and STEM education.

The program innovatively incorporates traditional Hawaiian practices into STEM learning, exemplified by students engaging in ʻulumaika, an ancient Hawaiian sport that develops focus, precision, and coordination skills. This cultural integration demonstrates how traditional knowledge and modern STEM education can work hand in hand to create meaningful learning experiences.

This launch represents STEMworks' ongoing commitment to expanding its AFTERschool programs, which provide students with engaging, hands-on STEM curricula. Beyond teaching technical skills, the program aims to empower students and teachers with the resources and inspiration needed to make positive changes in their communities.
