An Exciting Space Exploration Day on September 30, 2022

This past Friday, September 30, the STEMworks team with support of the AMOS Conference Team hosted 120 Maui County Middle schoolers and their teachers to Space Exploration Day at the Wailea Beach Resort.

The Advanced Maui Optical and Space Surveillance Technologies (AMOS) Conference, September 27-30, 2022, is the premier technical conference in the nation devoted to space situational awareness/space domain awareness.

Our students started their day with an engaging talk from Astronaut Scott “Scooter” Altman. Astronaut Scooter Altman showcased many fun pictures and videos from his 4 trips to space! With a lively Q&A session with him to follow.

We then walked around the AMOS exhibit hall, where our students visited with 4 of the 9 participating exhibitors. Mahalo to our participating exhibitors for engaging talks and activities for our students.

What a whirlwind of a day for our team, students, high school volunteers, and teachers – Mahalo to all for making the day happen!

Participating Middle Schools: Maui Waena Intermediate, Lokelani Intermediate, Lana’i Elementary and High School, Hawaii Technology Academy – Maui, Lahaina Intermediate, and Moloka’i Middle School.

Participating Exhibitors: AFRL & AFOSR, The Boeing Company, CACI, Civil Air Patrol, COMSPOC, Institute for Astronomy (UH), Lockheed Martin, Privateer, and SAIC.
